I know it’s a New Year, but for some reason (maybe because of the need for change), I found myself wondering whatever happened to us ladies who were so in love with Westlife and Backstreet Boys back in the days? When we would watch their music videos, learn their lyrics, and drool over Bryan. Some of us even dreaming of them.
Today, we barely remember them. Some of us married to the love of our lives, to men who we would never dream of living without. They have become the most important persons in our lives… More important than Bryan and the rest of the Westlife crew was or will ever be.
And those our brothers who swore to marry white women, or at least an African American which we referred to as Black Americans. Then, they made we the girls feel like there was something wrong with us.
Today, they are married to some of us, loving us with all their hearts, and barely remembering how beautiful those women are until they see them in movies. We’ve become the love of their lives, building a life with them, making them treasure us.
As I earlier noted, it’s a new year. 366 days filled with opportunities and challenges, often going hand in hand. But I have learnt, as I am sure most of us have too, that if you don’t learn some lessons, there are levels you may never exceed. One of such lessons is the power of time.
Time made the little girls who were ‘rejected’ become the wives who build lives with their husbands who see them as the women handmade for them.
Time made the men who paled in comparison to Westlife and Backstreet Boys become our strongmen. Men who protect, provide and worry about us.
Time changes everything, sometimes positively, and other times, negatively.
Time also makes us face reality, or rather, it brings us to reality.
Time does many things, but the best thing I think it does, is that it brings out the beauty in seemingly ugly situations, helping us see the hidden worth of things.
The importance of time is hidden in the fact that time is life.
With time the ladies who dreamt of Westlife learnt that the boys who were scrawny had grown up to strong handsome and wonderful men who we respect and are submitted to.
With time our brothers saw how the girls who they didn’t understand why they cooked what they couldn’t eat became beautiful, curvy and homey ladies, and they realized that we are the ones for them.
God makes things beautiful with time.
My point in all this is that 2016 is another set of time in which we can, working with God, make something beautiful. The truth is that there are achievements, which depend on time, and may not depend on us, but we can make the waiting period worthwhile, by making other aspects of life beautiful. At every or any disappointment, we should seek to take an action to make life a little better.
I realized that my set of New Year resolutions always contained two particular items… Get closer to God, and get more stable financially. To me, these two things are important, but I have a daily resolution… make someone smile.
There is a satisfaction that comes with knowing that you genuinely worked or sacrificed to make someone smile, there is also a blessing attached.
Our lives are made up of years, the years are made up of months, the months are made up of weeks, the weeks are made up of days, the days are made up of hours, the hours are made up of minutes, the minutes are made up of seconds and the seconds are even made up of nanoseconds. A beautiful life starts from what goes into the nanoseconds of each day.
In a beautiful life there is a time to pray.
In a beautiful life there is a time to work.
In a beautiful life there is a time to rest.
In a beautiful lifer there is a time to play.
In a beautiful life there is a time to think (not worry).
In a beautiful life there is a time to plan.
In a beautiful life there is a time to act.
In a beautiful life there is always a smile ready to shine through whatever it is going through, be it tears or frowns.
You can have a beautiful life. Just decide to… and work at it.
So, I’d like to know your plans towards having a beautiful 2016. It’s not too late to make the plans and changes necessary. Writing it down is a step in the right direction, so let’s hear it… you may be encouraging someone. My new decision for 2016 is that I will love myself more, and appreciate God more for creating me, flaws and all. So make your comments with yours… Let’s go!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
