Whenever I am faced with a situation that almost wants to break me, I think back to this quote. What will my reaction to life be? Will I allow external forces determine my perception about myself and my life? Like David of the Bible, I encourage myself in the Lord and speak to my soul, don’t be downcast. The reality is there are several sides to a tale, a number of pieces that make up the situation you find yourself in at the moment. So while you may feel overwhelmed by the situation, perhaps to the point of giving up, don’t. Laugh at yourself and your situation.
There are a number of quotes that refer to the power of attitude. Irrespective of what is happening around, much of which may be out of your control, focus on what is happening within you, most of which is within your control.
Don’t take yourself too seriously, cut yourself some slack. I didn’t say slack off and be mediocre. No. But learn to see your world from the eyes of a child. Be imaginative, give yourself and others the benefit of the doubt. There’s this thing I do when a vehicle overtakes me suddenly without warning. I imagine they are faced with an emergency (they really need to use the toilet) and I laugh at them. Cutting me in traffic is annoying and it ticks me off, but when I imagine how pressed the people or person in that car must be for them to have risked their lives like that, I laugh it off and simply keep on driving.
Don’t let the sun set on your anger or disappointment or despondence. Tomorrow will be better. When I am faced with a stressful situation, I remind myself that it would not last forever. The stressful situation has not always been and will not always be. So I borrow from the peace of tomorrow and laugh at the stress of today. After all, in the near or far future, I will look back at this situation and see the lesson.
And therein lies the point of this post. Approach life from the perspective of a learning opportunity. See every challenge as an opportunity to improve yourself. Laugh at your struggle to get better, but remain focused and determined to get better.
Life is a journey, see the fun side of it, smile and laugh.
See you at the top.
