Selling Insurance to Nigerians is one of the most difficult tasks one will ever embark on. Insurance doesn’t sell as much as it should for these two simple reasons.
1. It is not my portion.
”It is not my portion” is one of the most prevalent reasons most Nigerians do not patronize Insurance Companies and their products. We tend to believe that misfortune can happen to anybody but us so the need for Insurance does not arise. In fact, for some, buying Insurance could be seen as lack of faith in God or whatever is their source of assurance and safety.
Another big one is ignorance. A lot of Nigerians do not know the benefits of Insurance. For those category, some form of enlightenment could easily shift their paradigm. But there are some who are ignorant and are not willing to learn or listen. Some also believe they are too small to be insured or have any business with Insurance companies.
