Today, I am thankful for happiness.
This year was certainly not the best of years for every one of us – financially, career-wise and generally. There were sometimes more downs than ups and it looked like things were continually going to go downwards. But in the midst of the storm, there is always stillness.
Omar Khayyam once said, “Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life.”
So today, I am thankful for moments when things were terrible but I still found a reason to smile. When nothing was going right but something went okay – even if it was for a second or a few minutes. When someone tried to piss me the hell off but then I see an awkward fall and burst into laughter.
I am thankful for moments when the tears were ready to roll and I felt like you were about to be a waterfall of hot painful tears but I could still smile through those tears and tell someone I’m fine. Because in those few seconds, I was actually fine – the tears were locked away somewhere and my face was free of wrinkles, even if it was for a short while.
Happiness is not something that is just picked from the floor, it’s a real gem found deep within ourselves and regardless of what happens or who pisses us off (oh, cause they will do. That’s a sure bet!), we make ourselves happy. Not anything or anyone else (yeah, they contribute a lot – ice cream makes me oh so happy) but us.
Before I start getting too philosophical, let me end here. So yeah, I am thankful for the moments of true happiness when I decided to smile through the tears and make ME happy.
So darlings, what are you thankful for?
