I have finally written about My Flatmates!
I was wondering how on earth I haven’t written about My Flatmates on Africa Magic, channel 151, a drama series I make sure I watch before retiring for the night.
You cannot live in Nigeria especially Lagos and go to bed just like that without first injecting yourself with a dose of laughter. In case you have been doing that, doctors say it is dangerous for your health. My Flatmates is good for your heart, trust me. Try it.
There’s a certain Wilberforce(”Willybeforce” according to Obus) who claimed he lost his teaching job because of his thick Igbo accent. Willy is funny, stupid, single, searching and not finding and can ‘knock jobs’ for other flatmates.
Imagine a barrister who speaks all the heavy grammars in the world but according to his other flatmates, has never won a single case. How dare you, Laywer Obus! Although he claims he has Okoro versus Okoro, a claim his flatmates always doubt except when they want to ‘obtain him’or want peace to reign.
Frank and his live -in Nemesis, sorry girlfriend(Mimi) are a delight to watch. Their constant nagging over everything, anything and nothing are always missed when they are not featured in an episode. Barber shop owner, Nduka and his overbearing housewife(Sandra) and their barber boy, Titus will leave you with a permanent I want to laugh countenance even when they are not saying anything. Sandra’s special English will leave Soyinka green with envy.
I want to omit Sammy not because he’s not a funny character but the fact he’s always in the habit of deceiving the Landlord’s daughter(Fadeke) and always saying ”I gat you” when he gat nothing. He makes end meets by scamming people including his flatmates. I trust Obus who whenever he hears ”I gat” you from Sammy knows upfront he’s up to no good. I love it when Fadeke quarrels with Sammy’s sister over Sammy. It is a subtle dig at some women and how they approach relationships.
I don’t even know what to say about the potbellied Landlord(a typical Lagos Landlord) who will not allow Sammy date his daughter, Fadeke in peace. I have mentioned Titus, Nduka’s boy whose Igbo accent is thicker than that of Willybeforce. I don’t know if Abdul(Nedu of the Nkechi fame) will replace Prosper, the hilarious but annoying gate man(how will you tell Mimi of all people that a girl came to look for Frank).
I feel like omitting Koko and Mandy(but Mandy, are you married to Koko or is Koko married to you)? I don’t know if uncle Dona is a waka pass or will his character evolve? I guess time will tell.
Just watch an episode of My Flatmates and you will be fine but if symptoms persist after watching an episode, you better see your doctor.
