Yesterday, I was thankful for exams passed and subjects that I should have failed that became successes.
Today, I am thankful for open doors and opportunities. At the beginning of this year, I knew I wanted to do something new – exciting and brain tasking; something that would pay.
But the issue was what to do. Well, there’s a quote that says that you should turn your passions into your income sources. And that’s exactly what I did.
I’ve loved writing since I was in primary school and literature was my all time fav so I decided to go into writing.
By May this year, I was a signed contributor and author for Lagosconvo.com. How it happened, I still don’t know but it happened, still is on and has been an awesome one. From writing proper articles, to stories and rants, I have grown from this job and met some of the most amazing people.
One of my stories was picked to be read on Smooth FM’s Tales by Night and it got the best reviews ever!
Writing wasn’t enough for me, I wanted something more and that’s where my event management company was born. I’ve always had a knack for being in charge – backstage and frontstage – and making sure things go as planned so when the idea of starting this came in, I held the ‘idea bull’ by the horns. Today, I am owner of Elites Events Management Services, together with my friend Hadiza Adeleke, and its been an awesome ride.
There have been many more awesome opportunities this year, like how I volunteered at Konamii2016 (thanks to Olamide Olabisi) and meeting the Honourable Desmond Elliot (Member of the House of Reps, Surulere, Lagos). I have co-hosted, planned and managed events, managed social media campaigns, volunteered for meaningful social media campaigns and interviewed people of influence and been interviewed myself (yes, TV and newspaper – I’m a celeb oh!).
I am thankful for all of these opportunities to learn, grow and experience new things and to open my eyes to wider horizons. Without these, I probably wouldn’t be where I am today.
So darlings, what are you thankful for today?
To be continued…
