“You could help at my laundry shop sometimes, instead of always staying at Mama Saviour’s shop,” Isaac said, two weeks after his return.
After winning two hundred and fifty thousand naira from the games he’d betted, the first thing he’d done was get a second hand android which cost ten thousand naira, got a network and called Ekanem.
Both friends screamed their jubilation; he even got to speak to Jojo, Uko and his grand parents after so long; it was indeed exhilarating for him.
Alex had a plan.
Following his getting a phone, he opened an account at a bank with the help of one of Mama Saviour’s customers; the money would help in processing his admission and invariably, his first school fees.
“You know I don’t just sit there, I do deliveries,” Alex grumbled as he buttoned his shirt.
“Hmm, deliveries of cum into Idong,” Isaac commented and then laughed at Alex’s shocked expression.
One thing he had learnt from living with Isaac the past weeks was that he shared a weird sense of humour with his brother, Jojo. Alex had been cautious around Isaac when he’d introduced himself that morning. Isaac had explained that his phone had been stolen, so he’d gotten another with a new line. He had called Ekanem that morning to speak with his parents for confirmation that Alex was who he said he was; then he had instantly warmed towards him.
He had treated Alex like he would treat a best friend; sometimes, it felt like he was back home with his dear friend, Jojo.
After the initial shock of Isaac’s vulgar words, Alex laughed. Over time he’d become close friends with Idong, so his laugh at Isaac’s joke was mostly forced.
“I hope you’re not forming relationship with her o,” Isaac warned jovially, “Because, she’s a free giver,” he said and laughed again, “I don’t want area guys that have gone there plenty times to laugh at you.”
Alex maintained his forced grin until Isaac left to open his laundry which was situated not too far from Mama Saviour’s shop. He had spied Flora passing by once and had unfortunately met Henry too, but the nice man hadn’t said a word to him; his face had remained blank.
Guilt suffused him at his contribution to Idong’s notoriety in the neighbourhood. Though nobody actually knew that they’d had sex before, but everybody just assumed, which was bad. He understood how only being known for sex could hurt, seeing as he’d experienced it himself at the village; he knew that such character assassination directed at a female would be worse. He wished people would desist from assuming that every boy-girl friendship ended in sex.
Alex had no idea what to do for Idong, but he was glad that the idea he had proposed to Mama Saviour had worked out so far.
He had explained to the seriously stressed shop owner what he’d been doing at the village for his grandmother. She had been sceptical at first, thinking Alex would run away with her money but Alex had offered to use a bit of his cash to purchase the fresh groceries customers were always asking for.
In a week, Alex had gone to the market five times over, breaking even on capital cost and making profit. Seeing as how honest he was and how the fresh groceries sales sailed, Mama Saviour took her fridge back and hired Alex on contract to be her delivery guy.
He was basically doing what he’d done for his grandmother, only this time, he was buying; he had become Mama Saviour’s courier and got paid ten percent of the market list’s total amount for every buy. If the list of purchase totalled ten thousand naira, Alex got one thousand naira from it.
It wasn’t a lot of money, but he was making enough to contribute to feeding at Isaac’s house without touching his savings. Mama Saviour’s shop was a mini market, at times Alex had to visit the market over five times in a day to buy things that sold out without notice; other times, on a slow day, he went just once.
Having imbibed the habit of saving from his grandmother, he was able to manage his funds wisely. Alex was able to contribute for meals and still have some left to purchase second hand cloths and shoes; he was already preparing a collection of cloths for university.
He had explained to his grannies that he had started working and saving for his education and that Isaac was good to him. With his own phone, Alex spoke to his grannies, at least, twice a week, whenever Ekanem could leave his shop to visit them. As for Jojo and Uko, he spoke to them everyday and they promised to let him know the moment their WAEC result was released; they promised, according to the principal, that it would be soon.
“How much is it?” a customer asked Mama Saviour, just as Alex arrived at the shop.
Mama Saviour wiped out her trusty but patched calculator and tapped out a sum. “Three thousand and twenty five naira, but just give me three thousand,” she said and the female customer handed over the cash.
The striking woman, looking too sophisticated to be living in that neighbourhood, watched as her groceries was packed and said, “This your shop is a little bit far from my house and sometimes I get tired of walking down, especially in the night. I wish I could just call, order what I want and get it delivered, I would pay for the service; at Lagos this type of service is common.”
“Oh, there is a boy that I pay to go to the market for me. I will speak with him, if he agrees, then you can tell him your address and he will bring it to your gate,” Mama Saviour commented.
“Seriously? That would be awesome,” the striking lady, who was dressed in tight jeans trousers and high heels exclaimed in blatant excitement as she collected the packed cellophane and walked out of the shop, without seeing Alex leaning on the side of the iron protector.
“Good morning, Mama Saviour,” he greeted, climbing into the shop.
“Ehe, Alex, good morning. Did you see that lady that just left?” Alex nodded, knowing what she was going to say before she said it.
Mama Saviour nodded, “Okay, she is requesting for a delivery person. I think her street is the one after our own and her house is down, down, yet she manages to come here and buy things. I’m thinking you will end up doing what you were doing for your grandmother at the village after all.”
“It will mean more money for me and Isaac will not quarrel that I’m always sitting down,” he joked and Mama Saviour laughed a deep, belly laugh.
“Please, Alex, don’t make me laugh and wake Saviour o,” she warned in a chuckle, “I’ll let the lady know when next she comes here. When my younger sister finally arrives tomorrow, I will have some time to rest, I swear, I could sleep for a week,” Alex chuckled under his breath at her excitement as another customer walked in.
The proposed delivery service was good news for Alex, already, his mind swirled with disparate thoughts of how he could add value to his customers. He dreamed of how his small delivery gig would someday become a huge company, but first, he had to get into the university.
He only went to the market twice for the day and earned eight hundred naira. It had been a slow day and Alex was bored out of his mind. When at 6:30pm, Mama Saviour asked him to hurry to her home to call her husband to come take over the shop, as she would be going to church, Alex sighed in relief.
It wasn’t much of a task, but since it entailed actually leaving the position he had been sitting for the past three hours, playing with his phone, he was grateful.
On his way, he heard his name called and turned, it was Idong; he waited for her and she jogged towards him, her breasts, which were a bit big for her small frame, jiggled alarmingly and Alex looked away from the succulent sight to avoid arousal. Despite looking away, his dick twitched in his trousers, but he had decided he would remain just friends with her.
“Where are you going?” she asked in a gasp as she caught up with him.
Alex had to clear his throat to make his voice less husky, “Mama Saviour sent me to get her husband.”
“Can I go with you?” she asked hopefully.
He would have wanted to reply negatively, but she looked so hopeful. He had always been sympathetic, especially to females and right then, he couldn’t say no to Idong, so he nodded and they proceeded towards Mama Saviour’s street, then to her house.
Shadows began forming by the time he knocked on Mama Saviour’s door. “I know, I know,” Mama Saviour’s husband called from inside, chuckling as he opened the door. He apparently knew he should have been at the shop already.
Alex liked the entrepreneurial couple a lot; first for generally being good people, despite their young age and second, for giving him the opportunity to earn, even when they’d not previously known him.
“Good evening, Sir,” they both chorused.
“Good evening,” he replied and went ahead to shake Alex’s hand amiably, as though they were mates.
“Your wife asked me to come get you,” Alex delivered his message even though the man already knew his aim.
He chuckled again. “Alex, you always deliver don’t you?” he joked rhetorically and hurried off after locking his front door. “See you at the shop,” he called over his shoulder and jogged off, leaving Alex and Idiong to leisurely retrace their steps.
‘So,” Idiong begun, “How is the work?”
Alex noticed that she was deliberately slowing her steps, but didn’t mention it. He was suddenly jittery around Idong, owing mostly to his dirty thoughts, yet, he appreciated her slow steps as he didn’t want to return to the shop immediately.
“It’s fine, but today was a bit slow,” he replied and reduced the stride of his gait to match hers.
The road was lonely and stretched emptily before them; Mama Saviour’s house was a bit far from the shop.
“We should have taken the shortcut behind Mama Saviour’s house,” Idong commented and stopped walking; apparently, she wanted to go back and take the shortcut.
It was a bad idea, but Alex didn’t reject it. He shrugged, “Let’s go back,” he said and they retraced their steps, got to Mama Saviour’s quiet compound in a minute before curving their way to the back.
“Hmm, they didn’t close their goat shed,” she noticed and further slowed her steps.
“That’s probably because there are no goats in it,” Alex replied dryly. He saw what was coming. He wanted to reject what was coming, but deep down he wanted it.
Idong turned suddenly and flung herself into his large arms, slamming her lips on his. “I want you again,” she murmured against his lips.
“I want you too, but I don’t have a place we could go.”
“A place?” she sounded flabbergasted, “We didn’t need a place the first time,” she said and pressed her soft breasts on the top of his stomach as he was way taller than her.
Alex was momentarily shocked, “Are you saying we should do it here?”
She caressed his chest and dragged her hand down his torso until she touched his already growing arousal, “There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s night, there’s nobody in this compound, we have an empty goat shed…”
“The shortcut leads to the main road, somebody could come from there,” he pointed out.
Idong scoffed, “This night? Nobody will visit Mama Saviour this night,” she assured confidently and pressed the growing length of his hardening penis, eliciting a hiss of pleasure from him.
A twinge of good sense broke through his fog of desire. He caught Idong’s wrists and tried to distance his crotch from her alluring touch by pushing his hips backwards, “This isn’t a good idea,” he muttered, his voice shook from the intensity of his arousal.
“Don’t be such a girl. I should be the one worrying,” she laughed under her breath and caressed his arms, since she couldn’t reach his crotch.
His engorged dick pushed against the fly of his trousers, but he shook his head as though he was trying to wish the predicament away.
“You want it. Look at how big your boy has grown,” she murmured in a sexy voice, “Let me touch it. Let’s just do a quickie. It’s not like I want a relationship with you, besides, I’m leaving town tomorrow,” she ended, a bit of anger lacing her tone.
Alex shot open his eyes, “You’re leaving?” he felt a bit of pain at that; Idong had become a friend that he could talk to. He felt they were kindred spirits since they’d both been sexually abused as kids. She had casually confessed that in one of their numerous talks; her uncle had been the culprit.
“Okigwe. I’m going to the school there, but I’ll be living with my aunty. Don’t look so sad, it’s not like I am your Nse,” she teased; she knew about his love for Nse, he had told her. His shock had weakened his hold on her wrists, so, her hands went under his t-shirt to touch his heated skin.
Silence reigned for a second before Idong continued talking, “This is goodbye for me, Alex. This is me making a memory of the best thing that has happened to me in a while. You always treat me like a respectable lady. I will miss you, I’ll miss our gists, I’ll miss your mischievous chuckle, you’re the only one that laughs at my jokes…”
The catch in her voice dragged on Alex’s heart strings. He was a sucker for dames in distress as he had been born with a hero complex. Sobbing women mostly made, huge, muscular men like himself to rise to the hero challenge. Distressed women made him want to help in anyway he could…anyway at all.
“You’re the best memory I’m taking away from here,” she murmured and leaned back to look at his face in the gloom.
Alex groaned, “God help me,” and snatched up her face in a rough, passionate kiss. His emotions had been raised by her words, by her tone, by her expression. He was sure he didn’t love her, but in that moment, he wanted to make her wish come true. He wanted to be her hero. He wanted to remain a reference point in her memory; he wanted to be her idol.
He slipped his tongue into her mouth and devoured her whole. Then he realised what he was doing and curbed his passions. He was sure the men she had been with treated her like an object; an object of sexual satisfaction with no consideration and Alex realised he was falling into that pattern, like he’d unwittingly done the first time.
Putting his temple on hers, he began kissing her cheeks, one after the other. He kissed the side of her mouth tenderly and she gasped, sobbing for more. Alex made love to her face, she was a woman and she deserved to be adored.
Slowly, he prodded her until they were inside the goat shed. He slowly discarded her cloths, kissing every exposed skin as he went. Alex saw her tears at being treated so tenderly, but ignored her, he was on a mission to make this night unforgettable for her. He was on a mission to create a standard.
“Don’t ever settle for less, Idong. You’re a treasure. Your past doesn’t define you, darling,” he murmured, kissing her breasts and sucking the nipples deeply. He made her lean on the rough cement wall, under the square hole which would fit the window; a bit of moon filtered in, illuminating her face and her heavily dripping tears.
“You’re beautiful,” he muttered, grinding his hardness on her abdomen while kissing her neck and his hands caressed her sides, rising up to her breasts.
They moved together, moaning and tangling, until Alex stopped suddenly, “I don’t have a condom,” he whispered urgently. He was intensely aroused and the thought of having to give this up when he had worked himself up, was debilitating.
“I have,” she replied and went to her knees. She grabbed her skirt and brought out the squared pack. When she rolled it on his hard length, he hissed and slammed his hand against the wall to keep his balance.
When she got to her feet and made to turn around into the position they’d used the first time, Alex stopped her. He put his powerful arms under her buttocks and raised her up. Leaning her back on the wall her legs spread to encompass the muscular bulk of his hips and the standing pole.
Alex balanced her and slid in. He had to wait a few seconds to avoid spilling immediately. When he started moving, he did it slowly, pumping up and down, in and out and swallowing most of her moans in deep kisses.
“I’m going to come, Alex, I’m going to…” then she climaxed, sobbing her release while her face fit into the alcove of his shoulder and neck.
Her explosive orgasm triggered his own and he began pumping faster, groaning every time his skin smacked against hers, then he released, groaning and grunting as he ground into her. Both of them held each other tightly and just stayed there, breathing hard and trying to get back their bearings.
“Sister…sister are you here?” a hesitant voice asked; hurrying footsteps approached the goat house, the only structure behind the house.
Alex hurriedly dropped Idong to her feet and awkwardly tried to pull on his trousers which had been hanging around his ankles.
It was in that moment, Alex bent over with his manly bits dangling in plain view, that there came a gasp of horror at the door of the goat shed, following with the rapid tread of retreating steps.
