Alex stood awkwardly to the side as he watched Sunshine apologise over and over to the man that had ordered the package he’d failed to deliver because of the Jojo debacle.
The package had been ordered as a birthday gift for his wife. Alex was supposed to deliver it at the woman’s office as a surprise but unfortunately for the husband, she was on field work the whole day. So, with information from the woman’s secretary that no delivery had been made at the office, the man called Sunshine to find out what had happened.
Sunshine was so contrite to her customer that Alex cringed the whole time, knowing that she was grovelling for something that was his fault. He had tarnished his integrity and it pained him immensely because his prompt deliveries were part of the value propositions of his business.
It helped that the customer was a nice man and a close friend to Sunshine, so, he insisted on locating her house and getting the package himself.
“I’m so sorry, Sir,” Alex apologised again as the man climbed into his SUV.
“It’s okay. I’m even happy it happened this way, now I get to experience her excitement first hand,” he joked, referring to his wife.
“Boss, leave that thing; it could have been someone else,” Sunshine pointed out and she was right, which made Alex look down contritely.
“Sunny, don’t be too hard on the young man. He has learnt his lesson. Again, it turned out good for me, at least, I got to see you face to face, instead of online.”
Sunshine smiled grudgingly, “We should hang out soon sha,” she conceded.
“That would really be nice,” he said and turned his ignition. “Let me go and surprise my wife with a bubble bath and massage with your massage oil,” he said and grinned excitedly, causing Sunshine to laugh out loud.
“Bad guy!” she exclaimed good naturedly and waved as he drove out of her drive way and away towards the estate entrance.
When she turned to Alex, her smile vanished.
One thing Alex had appreciated about his relationship with Sunshine was her strictness when it came to business. She was another person when talking business but fun when in bed. It made him comfortable that they would never have issues; she never tried to short change him because they were sleeping together, it was possible that the sex was probably just another pleasurable business transaction to her.
“What happened?” she snapped, walking past him and into her apartment.
Alex couldn’t help but enjoy the jiggle of her buttocks in the silk jumpsuit she had on, as he followed her into the house to face the music.
“I’m sorry, Sunshine, I swear it won’t happen again,” he opted to apologise instead of answering her question.
“Don’t patronise me, Alex! I know you are sorry, it shows and I’m not entirely sure, but I know you wouldn’t deliberately jeopardise my business and yours. So, what happened?” she asked, anger poured from her in waves as she stood akimbo in front of her flat screen TV.
Alex cleared his throat uncomfortably, “My friend has issues with me and decided today was a good day to confront me,” he summarized and sighed wearily.
Sunshine’s arms dropped from her hips as she noticed that all wasn’t well with her friend. She sighed wearily too, the anger totally gone from her face and moved towards him. Her arms rounded his torso and she placed her head on his broad chest and sighed again.
He almost cried then because he felt extremely betrayed by Jojo whom he regarded as a brother. They had always been closer than they were to Uko and Ekanem when they’d been in the village. Could having liked Eka have caused this? Alex didn’t even like her that way anymore, she was his friend, period.
But Jojo doesn’t know that, a part of his mind pointed out and he instantly recalled having stared at Eka’s arse at the backyard when they’d been arguing and she’d bent to fetch water from the drum. That had just been reflex, he hadn’t felt anything for her and as of agreeing that he had when Jojo had accused him that day, he’d just been trying to annoy Jojo, he’d not known he would take it serious.
How could he have spilled the Miss Ukata incident like that and even mocked him about it when he’d done it mostly for him?
Sunshine felt how wound up he was as he stood stiffly in her arms, “Alex,” she called and looked up at his face without leaving his chest.
“Room,” she directed and slid to his side, dropping one of her arms but the other rounded his hip as they walked together to the room.
“Strip,” she commanded as she left his side and opened her wardrobe to get one of the several cosmetic bottles of her product she stashed there.
Alex hesitated; his heart pounded but he didn’t think he was in the right frame of mind to make love. The travesty of disappointing a client and the problem with his friend weighed heavily on him so much it felt like his heart was breaking.
“Sunshine, please I can’t…”
“You’re wound up tight. You’re tense. I just want to massage you while you tell me your troubles,” she explained calmly as she waited patiently, with a small bottle in hand until Alex began undressing grudgingly.
“I really like your body,” she murmured, her eyes fiery as she stared at his well sculptured form. “You’re so manly,” she said coyly as she pulled off her jumpsuit and stood there in red bra and panties.
But to her surprise, his manhood hung limply between his legs. It was then she knew whatever had happened with his friend had been serious. Despite this realization, Sunshine still admired the impressive bulk and length of his dick even though it was flaccid.
“Face down on the bed,” she directed and he obeyed.
Sunshine broke the seal on the bottle, crawled on the bed and sat astride on his back. A bit of the heavy but warm oil dropped on his back, then she began rubbing it into his skin. She dropped more and continued rubbing, then she stretched and kept the bottle on the dresser and began kneading his neck, shoulders and back.
It was really soothing, Alex sighed heavily and his muscles relaxed as she kept kneading.
“He was the first friend I had after my parents died and I had to relocate to the village with my grandparents. When I came to Uyo, I had to stay with his brother who owns the laundry shop up the road from Mama Saviour’s shop.”
“Okay,” she murmured.
Alex sighed, there was no way he would not shock Sunshine tonight because he couldn’t talk about Jojo without sharing some damning information.
“I met Eka first…”
“Mama Saviour’s sister?” and he nodded.
“She looks like a girl I like and I thought she could be it for me but she wasn’t interested. I was determined to try but the moment my friend, Jojo, arrived, she fell for him. I was jealous but for only a while…”
“The point is, Jojo thinks I like his girl and then he thinks, at least, from what he said this evening before he punched me, he thinks, I act better than him. He thinks I act like a saint in front of his brother,” Alex explained worriedly.
It bothered him that Jojo would think that way about him.
“You’re the most humble person I know. If you weren’t, you wouldn’t be able to do your business with the array of clients you have, especially in this estate. I know the guys living here act as though they are sons to the president,” she said as she slid down his back, her hands kneading consistently.
“Hmm,” Alex moaned, enjoying her ministrations, when what she’d said sunk into his mind, he chuckled.
“It’s true now,” she mocked snapped and then chuckled too, “But, I think your friend might be jealous of what you’ve been able to do for yourself despite being an orphan,” she commented solemnly. She understood friendship and understood that Alex was worried because he really cared for his friend.
“I hope not,” he exclaimed in alarm. “Why would he? I have been trying to get him to join me. His brother complains everyday about his attitude to work at the laundry and just this afternoon, he told me he thought his brother looked down on his business…”
“He’s jealous, your friend, I mean,” she interrupted, “Turn over,” she directed softly and Alex turned, his face held a dismayed frown.
“That means I would have to leave his brother’s house then,” he decided in a detached voice, he really didn’t like the option but he didn’t want to have any issues with Jojo or come in between brothers, as he knew Isaac would definitely not support Jojo.
Sunshine slapped his head, startling him from his solemnness, “Why did you do that?”
“That’s for being stupid; where will you go?”
“I’ll rent a place and…”
“Wait. Okay, I think you’re long overdue for some business lessons,” Sunshine said exasperatingly and sighed.
“You look stressed, maybe I should massage you,” he offered, not liking that she was frowning at his idea and he really wanted her business lessons which she’d been promising him this whole time but had only been given him small tips.
“Good idea,” she grinned and jumped down, quickly disposing her undies on the floor and climbing the bed; she lay face down eagerly.
Alex got to his knees, reached for the bottle of massage oil that smelled mainly of coconut and mimicked her earlier movements of dropping oil on the back and rubbing it in.
“Hmm,” she moaned almost immediately his hands started working and even though Alex hadn’t been thinking anything sexual a second ago, her throaty moan and upward movement of her arse aroused him.
One moment he was flaccid, the next, he was eagerly swelling. Embarrassed with himself, he ignored it and tried to work on her back without allowing his eager member to touch her.
“So, you would want to move into your own place?”
“Yes, with the situation at hand,” Alex replied and cleared his throat as the head of his penis bobbed, touching her warm skin. The slipperiness of her skin and how supple it felt under his hands was not helping.
“Lower,” she directed and Alex kneaded her back, slipping lower to her waist, almost on her arse.
“There is a problem with that plan. Where is your business?”
“I don’t understand,” Alex said, momentarily stopping the massage.
“Continue,” she subtly prodded, arching her hips again and giving him a view in between her legs. “I mean, where do you have the most customers; where is your business booming?”
Alex understood her instantly, “In this neighbourhood,” he replied in epiphany.
“If you leave this neighbourhood because of a little disagreement, you will be spending more to gain less. There might even be trust issues for your existing customers when they find out you aren’t on the street anymore. Moving out isn’t cost effective; it’s a terrible idea.”
“In every decision you take from now on, you have to think of the business and how it will be affected.”
“I didn’t think of it that way,” he conceded, his voice expressing his revelation.
“Hmm, you can slide into my…yes,” she moaned as Alex read her mind and allowed his fingers to sink into her already wet cove.
“I also think you should think of registering a business name, it makes it legitimate. And you can begin advertising your services to a larger audience, online and among your fellow students,” she gasped and undulated her hips, following the rhythm of his fingers sinking and withdrawing from her body.
Alex hissed in pleasure, shaking his head as he wondered if he was ready for a larger audience, “Do you think I’m ready?” he asked, flipping Sunshine over like pancake in a pan.
Sunshine nodded enthusiastically, watching him as he sheath his length with protection, “Yes.”
Alex chuckled and walked on his knees in between her legs, spreading them in the process, “Was that for my business or …my business?” he asked, using his hardness to tap on her clit.
“Oh yes, now please…”
He needed no more prodding; sliding into her with sharp thrusts, he drove both of them to mutual satisfaction.
After two days of stifling silence in Isaac’s house; and two days of Eka fretting over a destroyed friendship, she finally gave in and dragged both friends to face themselves.
Eka threatened to break up with Jojo if he didn’t apologise and iron out their differences. She declared they better be best friends again before they left the backyard of the shop.
Awkward silence reigned as both guys stayed silent and unmoving. Then Alex sighed heavily and Jojo cleared his throat.
“I’m really sorry, Alex. I swear, I don’t know what came over me,” Jojo apologised sincerely but then Alex shook his head as though his apology didn’t mean a thing.
“Seriously, Alex, I’m the one that made Eka arrange this meeting because I was afraid that you would not listen to me if I made a move. She told my brother everything and I fear he hates me right now.”
Silence dwelled in the tense space between them for a minute which felt like hours.
“I don’t understand what I did wrong, Jojo,” Alex said quietly.
“Nothing! I swear, nothing. I was just…I don’t know, I was angry that you had to carry the burden of Miss Ukata alone. I felt irrelevant because you got it done, we had our admissions, you paid your fees alone and even helped with some of mine…”
“How is that a bad thing?” Alex exclaimed in frustration.
“It’s not a bad thing…it’s just that…I felt useless. And my brother wouldn’t stop comparing you to me, it was like he wished you were his brother,” he sulked.
“Jesus, Jojo, your brother just wants you to realise that life isn’t easy, it isn’t all roses. I’ve had some lucky breaks but they came on the back of had work. Your brother feels you look down on his vocation as though it’s beneath you.”
“I don’t!” Jojo refuted vehemently.
“Your constant complaints and always finding ways to sneak away makes him think that. Your constant frowning when at the shop makes him think that,” Alex pointed out.
Jojo looked down pensively, “The work is just hard and I want to do other things,” he complained.
“Well, think of it as running the factory that provides food; if you stop maintaining it…no food. I’m dependent on myself not by choice, I didn’t like being a servant for Mama Saviour, but I did it to survive, because there’s no backup plan for me; there’s no fail-safe. If you think that way, then you’d consider even being an employee of your brother and start saving whatever pittance he pays you…for the rainy day of course,” Alex finally concluded and breathed deeply.
“Forgive me?” Jojo asked awkwardly after a minute.
Alex gazed at him solemnly and then suddenly broke into a wide smile which he reciprocated. The met in the middle and hugged like guys do.
“You’re my friend, Jojo; who else will I talk to?” he asked and shook Jojo’s hand.
They joked some more and laughed, everything seemed perfect but Alex had learnt to be cautious about what he told Jojo. He was putting Sunshine’s advice to practice, people can’t be trusted.
