Bola could not understand why Gbenga was insisting on talking with her. He kept calling her after he left Bolatitos’ kitchen. When Bola could not stand the call, she picked to hear what he had to say. She did not say anything when she picked the call.
Gbenga: Hello Bola…Hello…are you there?
Bola: Gbenga, why have you decided to torture me with your calls, am I the one that gave a woman belle
Gbenga: I have something to tell you, I really want you to listen to me.
Bola: But I have been listening to you since I picked, you are yet to say anything meaningful
Gbenga: Okay, can you listen to me this one time?
Bola: I started listening to you the moment I picked your call.
Gbenga: I’m calling because of what EY said the other day. That girl is a liar. She is just a liar
Bola: You know what, do you mind we talk about this tomorrow. Come to my shop tomorrow, I will make out time for you to say whatever you want to say. I’m tired of these calls.
Gbenga: Okay, when can I come?
Bola: Come the time you usually come in the evening
EY: I’m calling you because of my present condition, you haven’t said anything meaningful about it yet.
Gbenga: Come, I have warned you to find who impregnated you and stop saying this nonsense you’ve been saying.
EY: How am I saying nonsense?
Gbenga: See; leave me alone, you are not my headache now.
EY: Is that what you are saying? Let me tell you, you can never, never deny this pregnancy.
Gbenga: Let me tell you, if you are looking for a man that will marry you, look elsewhere. Gbenga will not marry you.
Gbenga ended the call. EY tried again and again all to no avail.
The following day at his usual time, Gbenga arrived at Bolatito’s kitchen looking his best. He sat at a corner quietly fumbling with his phone. When one of Bola’s girls approached him to take his order, he waved at her to indicate he was not interested in any food. Gbenga didn’t look like his old self. He avoided looking at EY as she walked up and down the kitchen. When all the girls left, Bola came out from the inner part of the kitchen. She dragged a seat closer to the corner Gbenga sat
Bola: See, I want you to tell me nothing but the truth.
Gbenga(tightening his face): I will tell you the truth
Bola: Are you responsible for EY’s pregnancy?
Gbenga: How could I, does the river drown who is not in it?
Bola: Ehn, ehn, answer me straight. Are you responsible for her pregnancy?
Bola: Did you sleep with her?
Bola: Did EY pass a night in your place?
Bola: What happened the day she slept in your house?
Gbenga: Nothing happened
Bola: So you want me to believe you?
Gbenga: You need to believe me
Bola: Even when I feel you are lying to me?
Gbenga: I’m not lying to you
Bola: How can you not be lying to me, a lady like EY left her place and passed the night in your house and you claim nothing happened?
Gbenga: I’m still at lost why you believe EY’s account and not mine
Bola: I’m not convinced you didn’t sleep with her. I’m also not convinced you are not responsible for her condition.
Gbenga: Please can we leave EY’s wahala and talk about us
Bola: Sorry, I didn’t get that
Gbenga: Can we talk about us.
Bola: What about us?
Bola asked not because she really wanted to listen to Gbenga. She was amazed at the amount of denials Gbenga could spew out without batting an eye.
Gbenga: I want to assure you that EY fabricated this thing she has been saying. I suspected her the way she was behaving the day she slept over in my house. She did everything possible to lure me to bed with her. I ‘m glad I was able to resist every of her moves that night.
Bola: So why is she accusing you if you didn’t sleep with her?
Gbenga: That is the question you should be asking her. Why me of all people?!
Bola: I’m also asking you the same question, why you?
Gbenga: I actually suspect that she must gone to carry belle and is looking for who to transfer the responsibility to.
Bola: Really, so why is she accusing you out of all the men out there?
Gbenga: I don’t know. We have digressed again. I want to talk about us only
Bola: I’m listening to you/
Gbenga: Please do not allow anything to come in-between us, I beg of you.
Bola: I’m listening
Gbenga: So please, disregard whatever you might have heard from that stu…
Bola: Please don’t call her any name
Gbenga: Please, let’s get back to the way we are before this enemy of progress came
Bola: Okay, I have heard you. I will do what you said but you have to do just one thing for me
Gbenga: What could that be?
Bola: I will ask you all these questions before EY tomorrow. Then I will make my decision after tomorrow.
Gbenga: Okay, that’s fair.
Bola: Tomorrow in my house then
Gbenga: Okay, tomorrow.
