Onyinye tried to convince Chinasa that her plan was watertight.
Onyinye: Just do what I said and leave the rest for me. Hopefully, this will be the end of these shenanigans
Chinasa: I pray so. I’m already tired of this whole thing
Onyinye: Don’t worry my dear, the end is here
Chinasa: I can’t wait
Onyinye: Remember, don’t panic, don’t fidget, just walk down to the venue in style.
Chinasa: I will
In the evening, Onyine prepared for the concert. She met Nkem and Pauline at the entrance of the hall. The boys they contracted for the job had assured them everything will go according to plan. Nkem and Onyinye sat side by side. Pauline sat behind them very close to the door. She wanted a place that would give her unfettered access to the door.
Soon enough, the concert commenced. The hall was packed will with students and some party goers that had come from outside the campus. The performances were electrifying. Students cheered and clapped for the artists. The sound inside the hall was simply deafening. Nkem and Onyinye at a point tried to out dance each other. Pauline was heavily distracted. She lost concentration after the bouncers told her in clear terms she would not be allowed to come in if she was out again.
She scanned the hall to see if she could catch the glimpse of Chinasa anywhere in the hall. The hall was too big to conclude whoever was not in sight didn’t make it to the concert.
Instead of attempting to go out, Pauline moved from one part of the hall to the other looking for Chinasa. By the time she did it twice, she was convinced Chinasa must be going through some ordeal in the hands of the boys.
Pauline was wrong. Before the end of the show, Nkem spotted Chinasa dancing in the middle of the hall. She tapped Onyinye who in turn, tapped Pauline. Pauline was convinced the deed must have been done. “Chinasa is just trying to save face” she concluded.
The hall was too noisy and rowdy to make any call, Pauline assured Nkem she would confirm from the boys after the show that they succeeded. She sent a short message to one the guys “How far?” By the end of the show, there was no reply.
When the show ended, Pauline called the guy she had sent the short message to earlier on. His phone rang to the end. The call was not answered. She called the second guy, the same scenario played out. She called them again and again. Nothing! No response.
Pauline looked at the time; it was too late to visit the male hostel. School’s security would not allow them. Ladies who slept in male hostels would have gone there before the “restricted hours.”
They all agreed to leave it till the following morning. The following morning came, but it arrived rather too dramatic. Some plain clothes security agents had come to wake Pauline and Nkem up from slumber to reality in their various rooms.
They were only allowed to shower and change into some decent clothes before they were led away. They were led away from the campus in an unmarked security van after a short visit to the office of the Deputy Registrar. It was at the office of the Deputy Registrar that it dawned on them that their plan was leaked to the security agents who laid ambush for the boys. The security men broke into the room when Chinasa had removed her gown. She was still very much covered just as Onyinye had planned when the security guys broke into the room the boys had taken her to. Chinasa was wearing a bum short and camisole inside.
